Wedding Website Etiquette: Registry, Plus-Ones, Children and Gifts
How to word sensitive topics on your wedding website, from registry and gift notes to plus-ones and adults-only celebrations.

Some topics feel awkward to write, but a clear, kind note on your website prevents far more awkwardness later.
Registry and gifts
Keep it short and optional. For example: "Your presence is the greatest gift. If you would like to give something, we have a small wish list." Place it near the bottom of the page rather than at the top.
Plus-ones
Say it on the invitation and the website: "Your invitation lists everyone invited." Setting a maximum number of guests in the RSVP form makes it clear without confrontation.
Children
If your celebration is adults-only, say so warmly: "We love your little ones, but this will be an adults-only celebration." Offer helpful details, such as the nearest babysitting services for travelling families.
Photography and phones
Tell guests whether you want an unplugged ceremony, and where to share their photos afterwards.
Dress code
Be specific without sounding strict. Examples and a short description are better than just the words "formal" or "cocktail".
Social media
If you have a hashtag, put it on the page. If you would prefer no posting before the ceremony, say so kindly.
